Editorial Policy
How we report, source, and correct.
How we research, source, correct, and disclose — the editorial standards CreditScores holds itself to.
This is not financial advice
The information on CreditScores is general and educational. It is not financial, investment, legal, or tax advice, and it does not consider your specific situation. Decisions about credit, debt, or money should be made with a qualified professional and verified against your own credit report and current terms from the relevant lender or bureau.
Sourcing and verification
We research every guide against primary documentation:
- Score-model materials from FICO and VantageScore
- The Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681) and related federal rules
- Public guidance from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
- Disclosures from the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion)
Where a number, rule, or threshold is non-obvious, we cite it inline. Where guidance has changed, the older guidance is noted and dated rather than silently overwritten.
Authors and review
Articles are written by our editorial team and reviewed before publication. Every article carries a visible byline that links to an author profile, the original publish date, and the most recent meaningful update date. Dates reflect content review, not boilerplate re-saves.
Corrections
We take corrections seriously. If a guide contains an error — factual, numerical, or a stale rule — please write to editor@creditscores.pages.dev with the URL and the specific concern. Confirmed corrections are applied within five business days, the article's "Updated" date is moved forward, and the change is noted in the body where the correction is material.
What we don't do
- No affiliate links to credit cards, score-monitoring services, or lenders.
- No sponsored content, paid placements, or "as featured by" payola.
- No personalization, no behavioral tracking, no third-party ad networks.
- No forms that send your personal financial data anywhere.
Privacy
This site does not set advertising cookies, does not embed third-party trackers, and does not load fonts or scripts from external CDNs. The site uses no analytics by default. If lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics are added in future, they will be disclosed here first.
