About

An independent voice on consumer credit.

CreditScores is an independent reference on credit scores, credit reports, and personal credit health — no affiliate links, no upsells, no lead-gen.

What we cover

Our coverage focuses on the U.S. consumer credit landscape — FICO and VantageScore models, how scores are calculated, what moves them, how to read a credit report, and the practical habits that build healthier credit over time. We treat credit as a literacy topic, not a sales surface.

How we work

Every guide is researched against the primary sources: score-model materials from FICO and VantageScore, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, public guidance from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion). We cite where claims are non-obvious, and every guide carries a visible publish date and last-updated date.

What this site is not

  • We are not financial advisors.
  • We do not recommend specific lenders, cards, or score-monitoring services.
  • We do not collect personal financial data or send it anywhere.
  • Nothing on the site is personalized advice for your situation.

Our full standards are written down in the Editorial Policy. If anything on the site is at odds with them, we want to hear about it.
